In the 1960’s fashion didn't start out with colorful things. They were duly designed. Those designs look better on older people. The little shops and boutiques opened selling cheap and colorful clothing for the younger people. 1960’s fashion was an enrolling scene as a number of emblematic styles that came out in that decade. The fashion in this decade was bi-polar in just about everything. The early sixties were more reminiscent of the 1950's conservative and restrained, certainly more classic in style and design.he late 1960's were the exact opposite. Bright, swirling colors. Psychedelic, tie-dye shirts and long hair and beards were commonplace.
Women fashion in the 1960’s was based on London rather than Paris. They had the casual teen look of denim jeans. The urban look of the mods. Key fashion development and pieces of the sixties were women pants,mini skirts, micro skirts, the bikini jeans,and the off the rack clothing. Some of the patterns and prints they wore colorful. polka dots, geometric patterns, floras and paisley. In 1963, the young look swept through the fashion world like a great tsunami. This look included knee-high skirts, sleeveless dresses, lower heels and close-cropped, natural hair.

Men fashion in the 1960’s was that they wore paisley shirts, Velvet trousers, high collard regency jackets. They began to wear their hair long. Men casual shirts were often plaid and buttoned down the front. Men’s wear had Renaissance. Bright colors,double-breasted sports jacket, and polyester pants. The Mod style for young men also went Mod via low slung, wide belted, skinny, fitted pants, to which they added extra-wide, flashy printed ties that contrasted with the wallpaper floral prints of their shirts. Boots, vests, London caps and narrow Carnaby jackets were also worn by the young men who took part in the rebellion against traditional men’s clothes and conservative ways.
Hairstyles was apart of fashion in the 1960’s. Many hairstyles were found among this time for women and men. Hairstyles tended to be big for everybody. The common hairstyles for women were the beehive, the flip, bouffant, french twist, hippy hair, and the mod cut “ the bob”. The most common styles for men were the Afro long hair hippy look, and the mob top always known as the Beatles look.
Hippies anti-war Movement
In 1965 the term “hippies” was first used by Michael Fallon. He is a writer in San Francisco. San Francisco itself became known as the heart of the hippie movement. While hippies are mentioned in the today’s media, on television shows, or even featured as the Halloween costumes. Most hippies really were and what hippies stood for has been lost to history.
Hippies would be accountable for three major events throughout Vietnam War. The first of the events most related to hippies is the Summer of Love. That took place in 1967. The second infamous hippie gathering was the building of People’s Park in April 1969. The final, and most well known of all hippie gathering is known as the Woodstock. Beginning in August 1969 over 500,000 hippies came to listen to musician who personified their counterculture movement.
While much of hippie culture is now acceptable part of mainstream culture. After the end of the Vietnam War, hippies would be target of much ridicule. As as ground as fear of large scale, participation in Vietnam became more prominent in the United States.
